Experiences in the area

How do you find amber in the North Sea?

The best chance of finding amber is after a storm, when the sea has washed seaweed and small items onto the beach. Look especially in seaweed belts along the water's edge. Amber is light and can often be found along with seaweed and small pieces of wood. A good rule of thumb is to walk along the beach early in the morning or after windy weather.

Where are the most bunkers in the North Sea?

There are many bunkers from the Second World War along the west coast. Some of the places with the most bunkers include Blåvand, Vejers Strand and around Hanstholm. Here you can still see many of them lying in the dunes or on the beach.

Where can you drive to the beach?

At several beaches along the west coast it is possible to drive directly onto the beach. This is the case at Vejers Strand, for example, where you can drive down to the beach.

Always remember to keep an eye out for signs and local rules for driving on the beach.

Is it possible to winter swim?

Yes, at Vejers Strand it is possible to go winter swimming. The sea is open all year round and many enjoy a quick dip in the cold months. Remember to take the weather and currents into account and preferably swim with others.
