Amber hunting at Vejers Strand - a very special nature experience
The raw and beautiful coastline of the North Sea hides small treasures - and one of them is amber. When you visit Klithjem, you have Vejers Strand nearby, where you can hunt for the golden "Nordic gold". Amber hunting is a cosy activity for couples, friends, girlfriends and nature lovers who want an experience at nature's own pace.
An experience at nature's pace
Searching for amber is a quiet and intimate way to experience the nature of the North Sea. Take a walk down to the beach in the fresh sea air and let your eyes glide over the shoreline where amber can hide among seaweed, shells and pebbles.
For couples, amber hunting can be a romantic walk along the water, where the sounds of nature provide the setting for good conversation - and maybe find a small piece of amber that can become a memory of your North Sea holiday.
Amber hunting all year round
Amber can be found all year round, but the chances are often highest in the cooler months and after days with strong winds from the west. Many amber hunters favour the early morning hours when the beach is still calm. Wear practical footwear, bring a small bag for your finds, and most importantly, patience and curiosity.

Amber Festival in Vejers
Every year, amber is celebrated at the Amber Festival in Vejers, where the town and beach are the setting for a weekend full of activities. From 25-27 September 2026, you can experience guided amber tours, exciting lectures and stories about the history and nature of amber.
The festival is a fun experience for the whole family, where nature, knowledge and local atmosphere go hand in hand. The town of Vejers also offers great places to eat and shop - and of course the beautiful beach right outside the door.
What is amber?
Amber is fossilised resin from coniferous trees that grew millions of years ago. Over time, the resin has been carried out to sea, where waves and tides have slowly shaped the golden pieces that wash up on the beach today.
Amber is light, feels warm in the hand and comes in many shades - from light honey yellow to deeper amber colours. If you find a piece, you're holding a small piece of natural history from the North Sea.
