Fishing experiences by the North Sea

Fishing at Vejers Strand is a popular activity for both beginners and experienced fishermen. When you stay at Klithjem, you have the North Sea and great fishing opportunities close by - perfect for a day by the water with fishing rod in hand.

There's something very special about standing on the beach with the roar of the sea in the background and the fresh westerly wind in your face. And should you be lucky enough to catch one, you'll get one of the freshest ingredients imaginable - fish caught directly from the North Sea.

A paradise for coastal fishing

Along the coast at Vejers you can catch flounder, flatfish, mackerel and garfish. With a bit of luck, you may also come across salmon passing the area on their way to Skallingen and Varde Å.

However, the area is particularly known for turbot fishing, which attracts anglers from all over the country. Turbot can often be caught right from the coast, and local fishermen report that turbot weighing up to 5-6 kilos are regularly caught.

Pigfish can be caught in many different weather conditions, but many experienced fishermen believe that the chances are best at high tide. Natural bait is often the best choice as turbot can quickly recognise artificial bait.

The peak season for turbot fishing is typically from April to July.

The Danish Turbot Championship

Every year, anglers gather for the Danish Turbot Championship at Vejers Strand. In 2026, the competition will be held on Saturday 9 May, where both participants and spectators can experience the atmosphere along the beach.

It's an opportunity to experience exciting fishing, fish auctions and socialising with other fishing enthusiasts
